The regiments early actions in the Crimea were at Bulganak and at the Alma. At Balaclava they were engaged attempting to prevent the Russians capturing the Turkish held redoubts, and later in preventing the Russian cavalry reforming after the successful charge of the British Heavy Brigade. Being Horse Artillery their uniform is based upon that of hussars.
