81a Pipe Band Cameron Highlanders 1854

Sale price$280.00 NZD

Set 81a is an extension set of set 81 and comprises six figures of the 79th Regiment of Foot (Cameron Highlanders) Pipe Band in two poses; four pipers, and two drummers.
The pipers wear the Glengarry with feathers, dark green doublets, and wear the Scottish broadsword. The drummers and drum major have feather bonnets, red tunics laced white. The drummers have musicians' short swords. All wear the regimental tartan, Cameron of Erracht.

At the Battle of the Alma, Crimean War, the Cameron Highlanders (79th Regiment of Foot), Black Watch (42nd) and Sutherland Highlanders (93rd) formed the Highland brigade.

As part of the 1st Division, the brigade led by Sir Colin Campbell attacked at a critical moment in the battle to retake the Great Redoubt.

At the time of the Crimean War, the Cameron Highlanders were distinguished by their Cameron of Erracht tartan and dark green facings of collar and cuffs. Research for this set has been based upon the Crimea sketches and notes of General Vanson, now held in the Musee de L'Armee, Paris, and upon a painting of a group of Cameron Highlanders, by D. Cunliffe, 1854.
