Upon taking part in many of Napoleon's actions, Colbert gained a high reputation as a brave cavalry leader. Attached to the Imperial Guard in 1811 he commanded the 2nd Regiment de Chevau-Legers/Dutch Lancers. He is depicted in that uniform.
