124 Fusiliers-Chasseur

The two regiments of Fusiliers formed in 1806 were each of only one battalion, with their officers drawn from the ranks of the ‘Old Guard’, and the Line Regiments, and were to provide Napoleon with an elite alternative to using the ‘Old Guard’. 

Though first employed in Spain, their first major action was later at the Battle of Wagram, 1809 where Napoleon defeated the Austrian Army under Archduke Charles.
They fought well in the Russian Campaign, but over the period 1813-14 the regiments faded away as their numbers were drawn upon to form the nucleus of newer regiments such as the ‘Young Guard’.
