Until their amalgamation in the above Regiment in 1881, the 1st and 2nd Battalions were respectively the 75th and 92nd Regiments of Foot. The 75th Regiment was raised in the 1787 for service in India. In 1862 it received the title of ‘The Stirlingshire Regiment’ which it retained until the 1881 amalgamation.
