33 Officer, 91st Highlanders, 1879 (pre-owned)
Raised in 1796 by General Duncan Campbell, the 91st was a storied regiment that served across the British Empire from the Napoleonic wars to India during the Sepoy Mutiny and extensive service in Africa, particularly during the Boer Wars and 8th Xhosa Wars in the mid-19th century.
This officer wears Campbell of Cawdor tartan trews, adopted by the Regiment in 1864 and worn until 1881. The cheetah fur adornment on his pith helmet is perhaps a tribute to past service against the Xhosa tribe.
This regiment was amalgamated with the 93rd (Sutherland) Highlanders in 1881, becoming the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders, by which name this unit served with distinction into the 21st Century.
