86 53rd Don Cossack Cavalry 1854
Set 86 consists of three mounted cossacks, two troopers and one bugler. They wear the Cossack fur cap, shival long coat, Cossack cartridge pouch, and are armed with lance, musket and shashka sword.
Drawn from the Army of the Caucasus, cossacks were at this time considered the best light cavalry in the world, being skilled at scouting, raiding, ambushing and outpost duty. Though widely used in the Crimea, their skills were given no chance by the Russian Commander-in-Chief General Menshikov not knowing how to use them.
