A10 Texas Brigade (pre-owned)

Sale price$240.00 NZD

Americana Series

The 1st, 4th, and 5th Texas Infantry Regiments were formed at ‘Camp Texas’ near Richmond, Virginia in October 1861, from companies that had travelled from Texas. Under the command of Colonel John Bell Hood, they became known as Hood’s Texas Brigade.

The Texas ‘Lone Star’ emblem was incorporated into some manufactured belt plate and button designs and many soldiers chose to display their state of origin by unofficially on their hats, stars fashioned from cloth, tin, lead and silver dollars.

The marching song ‘The Old Gray Mare’ composed and written by a 5th Texan led the Brigade to the Battles of Mechanicsville, Gaines Mill, 2nd Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Wilderness, Petersburg, Atlanta.
